Abstract:

In order to to study the pharmacognosy of Zhongliuteng (Pileostegia tomentella Hand. Mazz) from Guangxi and to set quality standards of this herbs, identifications of morphology characters, microscopic and physichemical identifications of Guangxi Zhongliuteng were carried out. The results showed that twigs underneath leaf and inflorescence were dense, hazy or embroidered pilose; cylindrical stems were grey or taupe; root were rusty or brown; branches were wrinkle, stems and roots had irregular grooves. Stems were crisp and easy to break irregularly. The break of the stems could be seen it’s wide skin, narrow wood. Old stem marrow hollow, brown. Slight odour, and it tastes slightly bitter. Microscopic identification results showed that there were much brown block material and calcium oxalate crystal, a variety of shapes of stone cells and oil cells in Zhongliuteng stem and leaf intracellular or between cells. Physicochemical identification results showed that Zhongliuteng contained tannins or phenols, flavonoids, cardiac glycosides, saponins, reducing sugar, organic acids and other substances but no anthraquinones and alkaloids detected.

Key words: Pileostegia tomentella Hand. Mazz, Identification of morphology and character, Microscopic identification, Physicochemical identification
