Abstract:

To quantitatively analyze bulking characteristic of potato tuber and its correlation with tuber fresh weight, a field experiment of different planting management modes was conducted in 2018 and 2019 potato growing seasons. The bulking characteristics of potato tuber and its correlation with tuber fresh weight were defined by the variation of potato fresh weight and tuber bulking rate with the days after tuber setting, and the inherent relationship between tuber bulking parameters and tuber fresh weight. The results showed that the potato fresh weight in different treatments showed a "S" curve with the days after tuber setting, the tuber fresh weight of the integration of water and fertilizer (TI) was significantly higher than that of conventional water and fertilizer (TC) after 35 days of tuber setting; the tuber bulking rate in different treatments showed a "unimodal" curve with the days after tuber setting, the tuber bulking rate of TI was higher than that of TC from achieved the maximum tuber bulking rate to mature, but the difference between treatments was not significant; the main parameters of tuber bulking were positively correlated with the tuber fresh weight, but none of them reached significant correlation level. Both the fast- and slow-growth period tuber bulking rates R2 and R3 were significantly positively correlated with the average tuber bulking rate R. It indicated that TI could ensure the precise supply of water and fertilizers, especially in the late stage of potato growth, it could effectively prevent premature senescence of potato plants, promote the tubers bulking and dry matter accumulation, and increase the rate of potato tuber bulking during the fast- and slow-growth periods. However, TC was prone to lack of fertilizer supply in the late stage of potato growth, which suppressed the tuber bulking of potato. Besides, the average and maximum tuber bulking rate was mainly affected by the tuber bulking rates of the fast- and slow-growth period.
