Effects of Selenium Stress on the Physiological Characteristic of Medicago sativa L.

Abstract:

In this paper, the effects of selenium (Se) stress on the physiological characteristics of alfalfa were investigated by pot experiments, including soluble protein content, free proline content, O2 .- content and MDA content in different tissues of Medicago sativa L. The results showed that the O2 .- content, MDA content, free proline content and soluble protein content significantly increased when the Se stress increased to 900μM compared with the control (non-Se). After 60 days of Se exposure, the accumulation contents of Se in roots were significantly higher than in leaf and stem. Thus, these results indicated that the alfalfa was a promising remedial potential for the high level of Se contamination soil.
