Effects of NaCl, Na2SO4 and Na2CO3 Stress on the Seed Germination of Mung Bean

Abstract:

To determine the salt tolerance of mung bean seeds during germination, NaCl, Na2SO4 and Na2CO3 with concentrations of 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0% and 2.5%, respectively, were selected for the germination test of Jinlü no.9 seeds in this study. Relative germination rate, relative germination vigor, average germination days, relative germination index and relative harm rate by salt were measured after salt treatment. The results showed that salts inhibited the germination and the relative germination rate, relative germination vigor, and relative germination index of seeds significantly decreased with increasing salt concentration. Meanwhile, average germination days and relative harm rate by salt significantly increased with increasing salt concentration. The linear regression between salt treatments and seed germination rate of mung beans indicated that the inhibiting order of the three salts was Na2CO3>NaCl>Na2SO4. The limiting salt solution concentration was Na2CO3 2.062%, NaCl 2.816% and Na2SO4 7.684%.
